Heritage Oshawa's Inventory of Heritage Properties

Union Cemetery
Union Cemetery
69-760 King St. W.

Creating an inventory of heritage properties is one of the tasks set to Heritage Oshawa by City Council. The following properties have been included on the inventory as they have historical, architectural or contextual value. Some of the criteria for evaluating properties for inclusion are the age, owners/ occupants, architects or others involved with the construction, architectural style, design, methods of construction, status as a landmark, and the importance to the city's history.

Heritage resources may include structures, streetscapes, landscapes, natural areas, cemeteries and burial places as well as archaeological sites.

There are over 6,000 heritage resources in Oshawa if we use Heritage Canada's benchmark of 70 years and older. The starting point for the Inventory was the age of the building. All known properties built prior to 1900 have been included. We are currently working on the 1900 to 1905 properties and on identified areas in the city (rural properties, Simcoe Street to Mary Street, Adelaide to Rossland and downtown). The list is constantly evolving as we add properties, evaluate, research and designate properties and will be updated annually.

If you know of a property that should be included, please contact us.
